I loved the Arts: music, reading, writing and drama. Yet, I ended up studying a double degree of law and economics at university. After one semester it was clear that line of study wasn’t for me. I then started on an Arts degree, majoring in Literature and Journalism, but switched to a Bachelor of Communications after I started working as a cadet journalist on a paper in Gladstone.
As much as I loved journalism, my career got put on hold when I returned to Mackay to start a family. I ended up in public relations working for the government (but have since moved into the private sector to head up the public relations section for my current employer). I still wrote in my spare time, plays and short stories, some of which were terrible. Then I had the idea for Sleeper (that I called Mishca at the time) and I wrote my first novel.
A close friend was the first person to read my writing told me I had to try and get my novel published. Since then I’ve written multiple short stories and plotted other novels.
My short story GROWTH was selected for publication in the Australian Literary Reviews’ anthology The Basics of Life and my short story KARMA was runner-up in the Australian Literary Review’s YA short story competition.
As well as writing, I love blogging and social media and have presented on both topics at the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival. I've started working with people on image management and personal branding through social media platforms.
I have recently taken up the position of Marketing Director for Entranced Publishing.
Well-known for my fantastic taste in shoes, I've actually been stalked by women wanting to know where I got my high heels from. Follow me on Twitter and check out my group blog YAtopia, where I contribute to discussions on the love of YA literature.
